Mastering FAQ.
What does a mastering engineer do?
A mastering engineer is the final creative and technical step before release. Mastering balances levels, EQ, and dynamics across an album, ensures translation on every playback system, and prepares format-correct deliverables for streaming, radio, CD, and vinyl.
What is the difference between mixing and mastering?
Mixing combines individual tracks into a single stereo (or Atmos) song. Mastering takes that finished song and polishes it for release — overall tone, loudness, and consistency across the album, plus final master files for each format.
How much does mastering cost per song?
Rates depend on whether the project is stereo or stem mastering, single or album, and what deliverables are required (digital only, vinyl pre-master, DDP for CD). Submit the Work With Me form for project pricing.
Do you offer stem mastering?
Yes. 4–8 grouped stems, each shaped independently for tighter low-end, more clarity in the vocal, and a more open stereo image. Surgical control without going back to the full mix session.
Can you deliver DDP files for CD manufacturing?
Yes. Master CDs and DDP files, ready for the manufacturer, including album sequencing and gap timing. Atmos masters also available for Apple Music, Tidal, and Amazon.
